WHAT IS CATARACT ?

Cataracts usually grow with advancing age, although in uncommon cases, they can be inborn (present at birth). Adult cataracts may run in families. The situation can also be due to medical problems like injury to the eye, diabetes, medications (especially steroids), previous eye surgery, overexposure to sunlight, and other unknown factors. inborn cataracts can be the result of genetic inheritance or can be caused by disorders and infections that can occur during pregnancy.

What are the types of Cataracts?

A cataract is a cloudy part in the lens of the eye. There are 3 classifications of adult cataracts: immature, mature, and hyper-mature.

  • A cataract is measured as an immature cataract, when there are some remaining clear areas in the lens
  • A cataract is considered as a mature cataract when the lens is completely opaque.
  • A Hyper-mature cataract is the situation where cataract has a leaky liquid surface that might source inflammation of other eye structures.
